Write Up:The parking lot was filling quite steadily as four of us prepared our packs and donned our boots for this hike. The trail can handle a crowd, as hikers spread out and occasionally passed us (or vise-versa) climbing up and through trees to the lookout point in the valley. This is the lunch and turn-around for touring companies who take groups to look at the glacier. A mix of sun and cloud overhead meant we clearly see the glacier’s receding crest. We anticipated rain later in the day and we pleased as it did hold off for our clock-wise climb up a steep and meandering path through rocks to the plateau overlooking the valley. Once up on the plateau, we looked up at massive scree slopes which trace the bottom of the spectacular rock faces surrounding end of this valley. We put on a layer before sitting to have lunch and enjoyed the view of the valley below. Wouldn’t you know a weather front blew in quickly and we experienced a short burst of snow showers as we packed up to begin our descent. The front gave away to sun just as quickly as it had arrived, warming our trail as we passed underneath the dramatic rock walls and shallow caves associated with Stanley Peak. We were back at our cars in just over 5 hours – we figured the 10 km loop brought us to about 600 meters elevation gain.
