Write Up:After a week of mixed weather and smoky skies we were greeted by
beautiful blue sky and sunshine at the Chester Lake trailhead! It was
a chilly start at 9C but was closer to 19C by the time we finished.
The trail is easy walking for the first 4km then it becomes narrow and
rooty in the forest. I'd forgotten how steep and slick the climb up
the first headwall to the lower lake can be! After a wee break we
continued along the lake to climb up the second headwall, which was
still steep, to a lovely rock pavement before popping over to view the
second lake where we enjoyed a leisurely lunch before the return trip.
We saw and heard quite a few pikas who were too quick for the camera
but we did have a marmot who was more than happy to pose for us.
It took us 3 1/2 hours to get to our lunch spot and almost as long to
get back down to the vehicles again so it was a long day.
Stats were 15km with 577m of cumulative elevation gain. Moving time
5hr, total time with all our stops was 7hr20.
