Write Up:
It was a beautiful day for a hike in the Sheep River area of our backyard although it did get hot in the afternoon, but no t-showers and only a few raindrops on our return to cool us down which felt wonderful. We took the 'Protest Trail' up to Volcano Ridge - so named because it was built in 2005 by a group protesting the closure of the Gorge Creek access road and the shorter trail to the Ridge and the Summit. From there we descended then climbed to the Summit where we had a leisurely lunch with views of Little Ware, Mount Ware, Surveyor's Ridge and Bluerock Mtn beyond those three. We returned the same way leaving the switchbacked Cockerton's Corkscrew trail down for another day. A sweet treat of shortbread was enjoyed back at the vehicles before driving back to Calgary after a long but most enjoyable day on the trail. Stats were 15km and 700m of cumulative elevation. Thank you to my hiking buddies for joining me on another adventure in our backyard :-)
