As it was the first national day of reconciliation "we acknowledged that we live, work and play on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy (Siksika, Kainai, Piikani), the Tsuut’ina, the Îyâxe Nakoda Nations, the Métis Nation (Region 3), and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta." Given how windy the drive out to Highwood junction was we weren't sure how much of our hike we would be able to check out but our trail was sheltered from the worst gusts until two of us checked out the view at the north top! This was as far as we went but we now have a much better idea of the whole hike around the horseshoe. The western larches were in abundance but now turning golden and dropping their needles - a week earlier, and some sunshine, would have seen them at their most magnificent. We all enjoyed our day out though, especially the Scottish shortbread shared by Simon and Fiona when we got back to our vehicles :-)
