Write Up:We decided to take the shuttle up to Lake Moraine and we were
impressed by the ease of the experience. $8 per adult but only $4
if you are a senior - a steal of a deal!
Not many people on the trail as we were a bit too early for the
changing of the larches but we saw a few yellowing larches as we
started to gain views of the Valley of the Ten peaks. Did you
know that they were once named using the numerals from one to ten
in the Stoney First Nations language? Nowadays all but three of
the mountains have been renamed.
After lunch at a lovely rocky viewpoint above Eiffel Lake some of
our group elected to return to the trailhead. The rest of us
continued on towards Wenkchemna Pass turning around at the base of
the pass - this was supposed to be our 'easier' hike day after
all! We saw a marmot couple and almost stood on a group of
ptarmigan as they blend so well into their surroundings! They are
starting to show the first signs of white plummage. Another
fabulous bluebird sky day in our backyard!
