Write Up:In spite of the extreme heat, our fearless group of 11 had a great day of hiking up to the Ink Pots. Once we were all able to find parking spots, and got past the hordes walking up to the Upper Falls, the balance of the hike was lovely, with lots of dappled shade for quick breaks to drink water and eat snacks. Once at the Ink Pots, the group split up to find suitable lunch spots - some in the shade around one of the Ink Pots, and the balance in the shrubs near the creek. This was a hike of many firsts for me: the parking lots all full and cars lining both sides of the 1A highway; line-ups to go into the 'cave' to see the lower falls; a beach-like scene at the Ink Pots with dozens of people lazing by the creek; and last but not least, no vanilla ice cream to be had at the end of our hike!
What a great group we had; what a lovely way to spend a very hot day in the mountains. Thanks to all who joined me for this hike. You were a great group. Brenda
