Write Up:We left Radium in two vehicles for the drive to the Cobalt Lake trailhead. The road
was pretty well as I expected from the Bugaboo Provincial Park online description.
Arriving at the trailhead we surrounded our vehicle with chicken wire to protect our
tires from the porcupines enjoying a few laughs as we struggled to do this. We
expended a lot of energy attaining the Black Forest Ridge overlooking Cobalt Lake.
It was quite chilly so we donned warm clothing, ate our much appreciated lunch,
took several photographs and celebrated our accomplishment with some ice wine.
The scenery was so striking with the granitic Houndstooth rearing out of the rough
glacier. A snow squall blew in and we hurriedly decided on our next move. Four of
us decided to go further up the ridge while the other four of us scurried back down
the trail in the snow and rain. We had varied weather on the trip back down and a
bit of a muddy drive back down on what seemed the 'never ending' gravel road.
Our Radium accommodations were a welcome sight indeed! It is an incredible area
with lots of hiking possibilities for future trips. Thanks to my fellow hikers for
sharing such a memorable day in the Bugaboos with me.
