A chilly start which warmed up to be a beautiful blue sky day in our backyard. Our first challenge of the day was having to detour around Twin Lakes as the isthmus between the lakes was waterlogged. Next up was the connecting 'trail' between Twin Lakes and the Great Moraine Trail. After a bit of bushwhacking and cursing on my part we found the Great Moraine trail. The rest of our day was a walk in the park ;-) We passed by Reed Lake, climbed up to the aptly named Hilltop Lake and enjoyed lunch in the warm sunshine on the shore of Crescent Lake. In the afternoon we took a spur trail to check out an area of very old Douglas Fir trees and said hi to 'Big Doug' - my name for the largest of the trees. We finished our loop by hiking next to the not so scenic landfill site but at least there wasn't as much wind blown garbage as I've seen in the past. Stats were 11km with 270m of cumulative elevation. Thanks to my fellow hikers for embracing the bushwhacking and not throwing me in the nearest lake ;-)
