Although we were just 3 we headed out anyway and enjoyed an exploration of Jura Creek. The canyon is very skinny with high sides and you can just imagine the power of the water that must have come down that narrow channel during the 2013 floods. It opens out to a wider valley with great views then narrows then widens again. We stopped at a divide in the trail where climbers head up to Loder Peak and Door Jamb mountain. On our way back we saw a cave higher up where we believe a bear is denning over the winter. Even with microspikes the ice in the canyon was slippy at times. A more user friendly winter hike is the wider Grotto canyon just along the road but spikes are still necessary. We decided that it would be interesting to check out the hike in late summer when the creek should be at it's lowest.
