Our trip to Baldy Pass saw us experience the many nuances of spring and winter. We were able to use icers the whole way-we had to-left our snowshoes at home. Some of the trail that was in the sun was softer-- through the trees firmer. Did a bit of post holing, but if we kept our feet one in front of the other, managed to miss the pot-holes at the sides. When we explored to the left of the cairn up on the ridge, the tracks were not exactly on the actual trail so did some interesting deep snow plodding-easier on the way down as we found the trail. On the trail toward Midnight Peak, we followed some intrepid hikers planning to go all the way. We turned around just as a squall hit the mountainside-wind blowing the snow sideways. Once back in the shelter of the trees we had lunch and the snow came down in big fluffy flakes. Everyone had a fabulous time!!
