Write Up:
It was a good day in the mountains, with blue sky and temperature reaching 28 degrees Celsius. We started from Moraine Lake on the Consolation Lakes trail. We transferred to a faint alpinist trail and walked over boulders and scree to a long gully hugging the right side of the Tower of Babel. We scrambled up the gully on scree and later cliffs to a saddle at the back of the Tower. From the saddle we scrambled over a narrow ridge to the summit, which was a large, flat plateau surrounded by vertical drops on all sides. From the summit we watched avalanches tumbling down the east face of Mount Temple. On descent, we took advantage of the sliding scree in the gully. We made a detour to the Rockpile viepoint of Moraine Lake that was invaded by Japanese tourists.
