Write Up:What a great day of hiking. It started with a demanding 500 m climb up the spine of the north end of Highwood Ridge and ending with a very demanding descent of the south end, our group of nine hearty hikers were rewarded with amazing views in all directions. It was a clear and cool day and no smoke to obstruct our views.
The 8 km hike and it took the nine hikers 6 hours including a generous lunch stop at the north summit. The 650 m elevation hike and the fantastic ridge walk which included three summits along the way was made even better with the array of alpine flowers from one end of the ridge to the other.
Thanks to everyone for enduring the somewhat difficult task of route finding out way down the south end of the ridge.
For those returning northward on Hwy 40 we were rewarded with a close up view of Mama grizzly and her three cubs playing on the road side.
