Write Up:
A light rain fell as we started up the trail to Rawson Lake.
On our right Mount Indefatigable reflected off the still waters of
Upper Kananskis Lake.
The plan was to make the short trip up to Rawson Lake and,
if it was still raining, decide at that point to make the steep climb
at the end of the lake to Sarrail Ridge. We asked some hikers
coming back from the ridge how the trail was and were told it
was very muddy and slippery. When we reached the end
of the lake the rain had nearly stopped. After a short discussion,
everyone decided to make 400 meter climb to the ridge despite
the trail conditions.
In the end the trail not as bad as advertised and we all made it
to the top without much incident. The weather cleared for our entire
ascent and descent of the ridge. We even managed to stop for
lunch on top and were treated to decent views of the the surrounding
mountains and Upper Kananaskis Lakes.
It rained for the entire trip from Rawson Lake to the trailhead
parking lot. I think I can speak for most when I say I was glad I
did the trip but also very glad it was over. I was drenched either
from the rain or sweat and my lower legs covered in mud. I was
in desparate need of a bath.
On the drive back to the city we stopped at the Fortress Junction Gas
Station for refreshments and Siri was told by one of the patrons that
she need to find a laundromat.
We were a motley crew.
