We had a perfect, mostly sunny day for hiking, with rain coming only after we were back in our vehicles. From the second meadow we climbed up the creekbed toward the col at the end of the valley, with five of the nine going all the way to see the view of the glaciers beyond. Much of this steep climb is over and around boulders and smaller rocks. We returned via Niles Meadow, where we ate lunch in the sunshine. The views back down the valley from the climb up to the col and returning from Niles Meadow are among the most spectacular in the Rockies. The hike begins with a moderate climb for about 2 km., then levels out as you approach Sherbrooke Lake and for the walk along the lakeshore. Past the lake is a short ascent along the creek and by a waterfall to a long meadow that can be wet and muddy in places. A longer ascent by another waterfall then takes you to the second large meadow mentioned above in a broad open area. This could be a satisfying conclusion to a less strenuous hike that would still provide excellent views.
