Write Up:We had 5 hikers on this trip. The trailhead at Red Rdge Loop has been eroded by the 2013
flooding in June. We spent about 30 minutes exploring various optional routes toward the first
scree slope, which is our ascent, but ended up doing significant bushwhacking.
We achieved the top of the first ascent, but when the last members got to the ridge, they
advised us that one of the hikers backpack had opened somewhere up the slope and the hiker
had lost a jacket, sweater, wallet and car keys.
We ate lunch on the ridge, then decided we should abort the trip, and descent back the way
we came, in an effort to find the missing articles. Because we ascended a broad scree slope,
and not a distinct path, it was difficult to determine the exact ascent route followed by this
member. We were unable to find the missing articles and returned to our vehicles--again
doing significant bushwhacking as the trails used are game trails that appear and disappear.
Though we got back to the cars bruised and scraped, we agreed that it had been an
adventuresome day and the group had had a good time.
