The hike to Aster Lake was beautiful, but arduous. Despite much research to find the correct trail, the online reports, Daffern's description, etc. were minimally helpful. Using a map from two Apps--AllTrails and Kananaskis--and GPS, the group navigated their way to the lake. We went off a clear, well worn trail and followed a more lightly used trail that crossed fragile hillsides and streams. We question whether the well worn trail is a new trail to Aster Lake and the online reports and App maps are outdated. Despite these challenges, we spent 10 hours on the trail crossing challenging scree slopes, and many ups and downs. The views were phenomenal and the flowers in the valleys were awesome. The hikers were a great team helping with navigation, safe trekking and enjoyment of the hike. This is a great hike but definitely not one that should be done by anyone who cannot manage long hikes (22 km), ++ loose scree, significant exposure and a bit of scrambling.
