Write Up:
We went from Spruce woods Rec Area (south of Sibbald Lake) about 7 km south on the new Kestral /Trans-Canada/ GreatTrail (which comes off the tip of Merlin View and parallels Tom Snow but along the ridge on the northeast side. Eight of us enjoyed a pleasant sunny day. Latest information on Kestral is that there is a 600 m section in the middle that is cleared and flagged but has not had the stumps grubbed out - that is probably why there was little evidence of traffic on the trail. Additional information is that there is an excellent viewpoint about 1 km northwest of Merlin that is on the completed portion of the trail.
