What a beautiful day for a walk, and such great company to be with...we started by heading west through Bowness Park. At the Stoney Trail bridge junction, 3 of our group decided not to chance the ice and snow on the path up to Valley Ridge, and they carried on across the river and along the path heading east. 5 of us went up into Valley Ridge, and the path was indeed snow and ice covered for 2/3 of the hill. It was clear as we headed west, but again encountered snow/ice through the wooded section. Happily, all navigated this section without any falls - two wore spikes, and the rest navigated carefully and used the railings. We continued on across the bridge and east toward the 85th street bridge. Not only did we see a white tailed deer en route, we also enjoyed a beautiful stand of larches in all their golden glory. We met the other 3 from our group who headed back to do another loop and I am happy to report that all wore smiles. John also confirmed the distance to be 7km, rather than the 14 I had posted - I better sharpen my mapping skills! Thanks John for keeping me honest! All in all, this city hike was a Thanksgiving gift :)
