Write Up:It had been a challenging August -- the skies most days were yellow-
ish with smoke from the BC forest fires and the air quality index
hovered from 5 to 10 or worse -- confining many of us to indoor
pursuits.
There was a bit of smoke this day -- the AQI was about 2. It was a
cool Saturday morning of the Labour Day weekend. WE met on the
Bowness side of the loop -- the cafe is easy to find and the parking
lot close by (unlike Baker Park on the opposite bank of the Bow).
We struck out at an easy pace, heading east to cross the 85th street
bridge so that we could get the noisy part of the hike over with,
then headed west through Baker Park, across the footbridge below
Stoney Trail, then back through the gravelled trail amongst he
trees.
We hiked as one group (albeit stretched out) and reconvened at the
trail junctions. Many people took a moment to personally thank me
for posting an "EASY PACE" hike as they were experiencing or
recovering from a medical condition and had not been out hiking much
and missed the restorative benefits of being out in nature. Plus the
missed the cameraderie of fellow CWHers!
All in all it was an enjoyable hike on a long weekend without having
to experience heavy highway traffic.
