Write Up:Everybody loves a parade or so the saying goes. On this fine
Stampede Parade Day, seven of us decided to head to Sunshine Meadows
to see a parade of a different sort -- the beautiful flowers in
bloom in the alpine meadows. The hills were indeed alive with yellow
and white flowers with a few of the early blooming red paintbrush
flowers scattered about. We took the gondola to the village, then
the Standish Chair to the top. It was a clear calm warm day. With
the elevation gain behind us, we sauntered down to the Standish
Lookout, then down to the Simpson lookout, along Grizzly Lake then
around Laryx. New this year is a rest area with several park
benches along the shady shores of Laryx Lake. At the end of the
loop, we decided to walk down to the gondola instead of climbing up
to take the Standish Chair down. It was about 11 km (the map on the
Sunshine site does not show the distances). Even though it was a
Friday, there were quite a few people and families -- but all
respected the signs to stay on the trail.
All in all a beautiful day and well worth the price of the lift
ticket!
