Write Up:What a beautiful day for hiking with temperatures in the low +20's and a sun cloud mix.
We started up Tunnel Mountain from the lower parking lot on St Julien Rd at 10:30am,
arriving at about 11:30. We had an early lunch with magnificent views then made our
way down to the parking lot and moved our cars over to the Surprise Corner parking lot
on Tunnel Mtn Road.....very lucky for all of us to get a parking space as many people
come there for the Surprise- the view of the Banff Spring Hotel! And very few people do
the Hoodoos Trail which was lovely.
The Hoodos trail was dry, reasonably maintained and took us through varied terrain:
rocky slopes, forest and riverside trails, and of course near the Hoodoos, asphalt trails.
Many of us really felt the sun's heat as we trudged uphill toward the Hoodos on steep
trails, but had clouds and cool breezes on the way back to compensate.
The websites indicated Tunnel Mtn round trip 4.8km, I and others recorded 6km. The
trail guide also indicated the Hoodoss Trail was 9.6km from Surprise Point: I recorded
10.8. So round trip was 16.8km. Well done everyone!
