Write Up:Starting from Paddy’s Flat, 17 hikers went up Elbow Valley trail to Pneuma. Continuing on
Pneuma to Sulphur Springs, where we encountered a short burst of big rain drops but no rain
gear was required. We climbed up to a beautiful lunch spot on the hill with great views of the
valley and nearby mountains. After lunch we continued down to Riverview to enjoy the scenic
Elbow River. We had a short stop by the river. Not many people on the trail but lots of at the
river. Three men were lounging on their lawn chairs, with rock footstools, in the river and
enjoying Alberta’s popular summer beverage. Lovely showing of summer flowers along this
hike especially purple fleabane, goldenrod, red paintbrush, one lone wood lily, but a
profusion of red baneberries, which I have learned all parts of this plant are poisonous,
including the beautiful red berries. A wonderful large delphinium plant with honeybees
gathering nectar and pollen. Another great day on the trails enjoyed by all.
