What a perfect day.

Contrary to previous weather forecasts we had a beautiful sunny day, and essentially no wind.

We started with a cool minus 3 deg. One quarter the way up the path started to be covered with packed snow. At Windy Point there was no wind, so it was a pleasure to enjoy the view. At the top it was a plus 5 deg.

The new Building is 1/3 museum/interpretive center, 1/3 eating facilities, and 1/3 gift shop as the exit to the gondola.

After a food/rest interval the group split, into the group that hiked to the Cosmic Ray Station, the group that elected to hike back down, and a small group that waited for regrouping to take the Gondola down.

The new Gondolas are an improvement; it now rides fairly smooth with no more pumping around or grinding noises. At this time of the season the down ride is free.

At the bottom, some of the group made there way immediately back to Calgary, while a larger group took advantage to finish off a perfect day with a soak in the Upper Hot Springs.

Thanks to all the participants that elected to risk the forecasts and stayed registered on the hike.
