Our hiking group was composed of nine tough ladies and two men to keep the ladies happy: I as the co-ordinator and Jim, who took a great group picture at the summit and helped with route-finding by occasionally scouting the route ahead for the group. Well, at the end of the hike some of the ladies were still smiling. We started on a trail which got us through the village of Exshaw to the lower slopes of Exshaw Mt. In the absence of any trail going up, we followed a rocky ramp at the edge of the cliffs. Higher up we came upon a trail marked with cairns and ribbons which we followed to a bump near the summit where we had a lunch with a view. After lunch we descended north along the ridge that was not easy to follow because it consisted of several parallel rocky ribs often ending in cliffs, with the view ahead and around obstructed by trees. We reached the col, which was an indistinct low point in the ridge. Here we left the ridge and took down a faint trail in scree, which lower down changed into a faint game trial. Still later there was no trail but the going was easy in a forest with trees spaced widely apart. We reached the valley trail in an area of several trails and junctions. Keeping left at all junctions, we followed the scenic Prospector bike trail back to our starting point. Peter Minarik
