Itinerary:

This almost 10 km loop undulates through hills with mixed treed forest. Located on the north side of the Sibbald Creek Trail, the highpoints along the trail should offer us some views of snow covered peaks to the west. A clear spot midway through the hike would be a great place to enjoy lunch. Susan C. was hiking the trail Tuesday last week and her observations of conditions underfoot include: a mix of dirt/softening mud and snow with some deep patches along the way. They used microspikes while hiking, however Susan thought the trail might be doable without. Parking for the hike is located across the road from the trailhead at the Pinetop Provincial Recreation parking lot - approximately 45 km (30 min) from Calgary along the Sibbald Creek Trail. Carpool will meet at Valley Ridge parking lot 9am. We’ll gather in Pinetop parking lot 9:45 to begin hiking at 10am. Depending on lunch and stops, we’ll be on the trail approximately 3 ½+ hours; the accumulative elevation for the hike is 374 meters. Checking the weather forecast for Wednesday in the Sibbald area, the skies are sunny and temperature highs range from +10 to +16.
