Itinerary:
  • This is a loop hike through the woods in Kananaskis, alongside Sibbald Creek Trail and Jumpingpound Creek, about 2:30 walking time, plus lunch. We will walk up and down the hills on the side of the valley. We will not have any long or steep grades, nor ascents to peaks.
  • We will follow the trail north of the road for 4.5km from the the Pinetop Day Use Area, up and down the hills.
  • After crossing to the south of the road, we will stop for lunch at the Pine Grove Group Camping Area (still closed for Covid as of 21 June). There are picnic tables and a pleasant babbling stream, but the latrines are locked.
  • Then we hike the mostly flat valley alongside Jumpingpound Creek back to the parking area.
  • If we hit the 8 person PMH Covid maximum, please sign up for Waitlist if you are interested. Please contact me if you are willing to lead a clockwise version of the hike, if there is sufficient interest.
  • The route in KML format (Google Earth) can be found at Jumpingpound (Creek) Loop KML. If you need help converting to GPX or other format, contact me.
  • Here is the AllTrails description.
  • This trail is apparently popular with mountain bikes, based on the tracks I saw (21 June), but on a weekday I saw no people nor bicycles.
