Itinerary:
Let's hike along the Commonwealth Creek route then up the headwall to Smuts Pass continuing on towards Smutwood Ridge for a view of both Birdwood Lakes before returning the same way. (Note - we will not be going as far as the ridge, only to the junction with the Birdwood Traverse) I'm estimating at least 7 hours on trail including breaks. The first 5km of the hike is relatively flat with the bulk of the elevation in the last couple of kms. There are often bear sightings along this trail so we need to stay together.

Required Items to Bring:
Kananaskis Conservation Pass. More food and water than you think that you'll need. Bear spray
Recommended Items to Bring:
Use our Event Checklists to make sure you have everything you need.
Bug spray

How to Get There:
Event Directions:Drive the Smith Dorrien from whichever end you prefer and take the Mount Shark road opposite the Rummel Lake trailhead. Drive past Mount Engadine Lodge. Approx 1km from the Smith Dorrien when the road bears right turn onto the side road on the left. The trailhead is approx 120m along this road.
