Write Up:It was another beautiful blue sky day for checking out the trails in
Bow Valley provincial park south.
We started out along Stoney Trail which was the old highway 40 between
the Bow Valley and Mount Baldy back in the 1930's. Our snack stop was
at the Broken Bridges picnic site where the old highway used to cross
the Kananaskis River. From there we climbed up a short distance to
walk along the ridgetop with views of Mt Kidd and the Kananaskis
valley. In the river below we could see the gates used for kayak
slaloms which must be fun to watch.
From there we turned north and found a sunny spot for lunch. After
that we continued through forest to the Bonsai Rocks, an area of huge
moss covered rocks.
Next was Whale lake where we saw no whales but heard frogs croaking.
We finished our hike by crossing a wide open area with great views of
Mt Yamnuska and the surrounding peaks.
Stats were just over 11km with 375m of elevation.
