Write Up:It was a chilly start to the day and before long we had to don our
microspikes due to snow and slippery conditions as we got further up
the valley where the first of the larches were. In fact we met one
group of 12 who had turned back due to most of the group being
'spikeless'.
The golden larches welcomed us as we made the final ascent to the
'meadow' area below Piggy Plus. Here there are even more larches so
we wandered through them to the viewpoint at the end where you can see
the Burstall alluvial flats below and across to the pass and BC. From
a higher viewpoint you can look back to glimpse the Robertson glacier.
This is probably my favourite larch hike due to the number of larches
and the lack of people on the trail.
After enjoying lunch in the sun amongst the larches we returned the
same way getting on snowed on as we got to the main Burstall Pass
trail leading us back to our vehicles.
Some of the group stopped at the Peter Lougheed visitor centre on the
way home to check out the family of bears that have been hanging out
in the meadow at the rear of the centre - they saw mama, her own two
cubs and the cub that she adopted (this one is actually her sister).
