Write Up:It was a fantastic day on the Whaleback near Maycroft. We were
blessed
with a mix of sun and cloud and 17 c temperatures with a
considerable
wind on the ridges. John pointed out numerous flowering plants as we
hiked up the first ridge. Near the top there was a plentitude of
Balsum
Root plants in full flower. It was a spectacular sight. Please check
the PMH photo site to see the flowers. We did a circular route
dropping down from the first ridge and up another checking out the
twisted forms of the Limber Pines as we went. Hawks and juvenile
Golden Eagles surfed the thermals above while wary ground squirrels
scurried about on the ridges and valleys below. When we got back to
our
cars
after the hike Susan had a surprise feast of watermelon and soda
water
waiting for us nicely chilled in a cooler! It was a lovely way to
cap
off the day. Thank you Susan.
