Write Up:This fire lookout is the highest point on Willoughby Ridge. We
decided to look for the trail again. Basically the trail was a rough
road for mainly ATVs until the found the turnoff. There was no
signage indicating the location and route to the lookout. Apparently
Alberta does not want hikes near the lookouts and subsequently
removed all signage.
We then proceeded to hike the rough road up to a locked gate and
continued up the side of the mountain to the lookout. The hike
featured wonderful views of the Flathead Mountains across the way,
lush forest at the lower levels and excellent views of the Lost Creek
Fire from 2003. The view from the top was spectacular but so also
was the wind. The few trees that stood only had branches on one side
due to the wind. At the top also was fire damage and it was lucky
the lookout remained intact.
It was a very successful hike and day!
We also had an entertaining evening at The Pass Brewery and enjoyed
some flights of beer and Caesar chasers....along with wings and
nachos....
