Write Up:The group decided we needed to reach a destination on Friday and
chose this lake. The road to the lake was rough (13.5 km gravel).
Saw plenty of adventurers on dirt bikes on the road.
We parked where the road became too rough to continue driving. One
other car was parked in the same area. There was a sign for the lake
and a trail – however it was blocked by yellow tape. There was no
explanation for this – perhaps a grizzly and cubs were in the area –
we did not want to find out.
So we proceeded up a very rough and narrow road – of course there was
no signage on the road. As we were hiking 3 dirt bikes came down the
path. They stopped and we asked if we were on the right trail to the
lake. They said they saw no lake but they would go back and explore
further. About 10 minutes later one of the riders returned and told
us there was signage for the lake about 1 km ahead and that the three
of them were going to hike to the lake. We reached the sign so we
knew we were on the right path. Then the climb started – 150 m
elevation in a short distance. We arrived at the top of the
escarpment and hiked down a lovely treed path to the lake. It was
glorious!
Again the trail was not busy – only the three riders and one other
couple and a dog.
It was well worth the hike. For future reference we suggest that we
hike to the lake and on to Mt. Ward for a full day.
