We had a beautiful blue sky day to hike Stanley Glacier. Thank you to the 6 enthusiastic women who came out to hike this with me and share a little adventure. The first 4.5 km went smoothly as we hiked through the new growth of pine trees. We took a short break before starting the loop. While we were there we assessed a couple of hikers descending the trail counter-clockwise and agreed that this was the direction we would hike it. Unfortunately I got us off trail near the beginning of the loop, resulting in us going higher than we should have been and having to traverse over the talus rock. Esther spotted the trail to our right and got us back on track. Thank you Esther! After a leisurely lunch at the back of the loop, which gave us great views of the glacier and down through the valley, we continued the loop towards the waterfall. When we reached the falls we all felt that the water seemed to be spread over quite a wide stretch of rocks and was flowing rather quickly so we decided to head downwards through the rocks to avoid crossing the falls. Footing was good and we were back at the loop’s intersection fairly quickly. We were happy to be back in the shade of the trees for the walk back to the cars. Thanks everyone for a great day.
