Write Up:Coliseum Mountain is the "flagship" hike of the area, only 1 mile to the
trailhead from the Expanse cottages in Nordegg. The trail is very well
designed with well graded switchbacks to make the 800+ meters elevation
gain easier. There are interesting rock formations half way up, great
views from the upper half of the trail and a large area at the summit to
relax, have lunch and for some have a nap before descending. Our group
of 13 split in into groups of 8 fast and 5 relaxed pace on the way up
and into groups of 6 fast and 7 relaxed on the way down. Watch out for
the flies near the cairn, at least they were not biting. What a great
day.
