Write Up:
When we parked at Sentinel Day Use Area I looked up at Grass Ridge and thought “Holy cr*p, how are we ever going to get up there?” Then someone said “Let’s just start walking and see what happens.” Following various game trails for 500 meters we were soon up the steep slope to a pleasant and scenic ridge walk on a good trail for the next 3 ˝ km. From the ridge we had fantastic views of Gunnery Mountain and Holy Cross Mountain to the west and Fir Creek Ridge and the Bull Creek Hills to the east. We had lunch with great views before descending to the Gunnery Creek trail which we followed back out to the road. The weather was perfect for hiking. The trail conditions were excellent. The seven hardy hikers were thrilled with the adventure to boldly go where perhaps no weekend hiker has gone before. Yes, fortune favours the bold. Sorry for all the fair weather hikers who cancelled. Total distance was 8 km and 497 meters vertical. Grass Ridge is the ridge between Gunnery Creek and the Grass Pass trail.
