Write Up:It was a good day to get out of the city to enjoy the beauty of
nature, moderate exercise and good companionship in the hills of
Jumpingpound. Sunny aspen hillsides alternated with shady gullies.
Yet the hills were never too long or too steep. Moose Mountain, still
covered in snow, dominated the landscape to the south. After the trail
crossed the highway to the south we made a detour to Pine Grove day
use area for lunch. We explored a little the area below where Bryant
Creek flows into Jumpingpound Creek. Coming down the embankment
on ancient stairs, we crossed Bryant Creek on stepping stones to a
wide side channel of Jumpingpound Creek and admired the brilliant
green water full of algae. After lunch we looped back above
Jumpingpound Creek observing the devastating power of the flood of
2013 and the more recent November killer wind storm. Yet all the
uprooted and fallen trees were cleared from the trail by the bikers.
No snow or ice either, just some mud here and there. Peter Minarik
