We arrived at Highwood Pass, only to discover that the whole area west of Highway 40 is closed to hiking due to remediation efforts in the area of the trailhead--No hiking to Pocaterra Cirque or Ridge and no hiking to Grizzly Ridge. We considered Mount Lipsett and Little Arethusa as possible alternatives. The parking lot at Mount Lipsett was already packed, so we hiked Little Arethusa. Annie Caldwell led the hike, as I was not very familiar with the trail. We had an amazing day. The sky was clear, no smoke and there was a light breeze to help keep us cool. Mount Arethusa is a short, but challenging hike up to the peak. We descended the peak and returned along the creek. We had a great group of hikers and had a thoroughly enjoyable day. Hiking time was ~ 5 hours.
