Write Up:
Seven of us set out from the busy Vista lake parking lot and 8:30 and walked to Gibbon Pass – and back. Temperature was cool as expected with some sunny and warm periods: the larch were great, and of course, the four lakes we passed delight the eye. First course for lunch was at the Lower Twin Lake – second on top of the pass. The trail which was drier than in previous years and had lots of good colour from plants and shrubs that needed photographing along the way and anyone with a good “phone” took and shared great pictures. Everyone agreed it is a great Larch hike. The return distance according to the Gem Trek map was 24 km, in agreement with Lorna’s All Trails App, but the predicted of 1305 m of cumulative gain was considerably less than that recorded by the app. With all the ups and downs on this trail, it shows the disadvantage of only advertising min to max height gain on our CWH web page. Time to Gibbon Pass: ~ 5 hours, return took 4 hours, 20 minutes. We were back at the parking lot by just before 6 pm. The co- ordinator needs to be fitter!! Kathy & Craig Copeland’s “Don’t Waste Your Time” book calls it a "Challenging day hike". Glynn Wright.
