Write Up:
We were at the parking lot by 8:45 and started hiking at 8:55. The parking lot was virtually empty. The hike of 17.7 km and 1,030 m. elevation gain took us 6 hours with a break for lunch at the top of Buller Pass North. The sun shone all day long and both South and North Buller were bright and sunny. The various falls, including the "bathtub" at the fork in the trail were impressive with melt water from the melting snow fields still feeding them. We saw a dusting of snow on Sparrowhawk. The valley between the passes was fun to traverse and we could see Quinn Pass, Ribbon Lake and even the Sparrowhawk tarns from the pass. They were a sight to behold. Great group, wonderful day in the mountains.
